I just heard from our ford salesman, (which is known to be on crack) we have bought about 30 cars from this guy.
Tells me SVT from ford is dead. They have offically killed it. They will still have a in house performance team it's just not SVT.
I told him yeah right. Did I miss a press release?

A salesman also once said to me he didn't know they made any Contours with moonroofs. Another also asked me where I got the body kit for my SHO. That should give you an idea of what Ford salesmen know.

I saw a local salesmen here on the television say the following, and I quote verbatim from memory (because it burned itself into my memory ),
"here's a 2001 Focus ZX3, I'm not sure, but I think the '3' means 300 horsepower!"
When I heard that my jaw dropped and swore I would never listen to anything a salesmen said...Evaaaaarh!!

I read in motor trend, or car and driver that althought SVT is shutting down till 2007 they will be returning with a larger budget and more employee's than ever.

There was news a year ago that SVT was being dismantled, and that any "enthusiast" design/production would be done by Ford Racing. The rumors were put to rest by a number of SVT employees, here at CEG and elsewhere (like SVTOA).
More than likely this rumor has rekindled because of the news of Ford's quarterly losses, which I posted about in Common Interests. In the article I posted, Ford announced that there would be significant plant closing and layoffs. Most people's logic would say that if a company is hurting financially and needs to make cutbacks, the high-cost, low-return "enthusiasts" division would be the first on the chopping block. Also, history has proven that it can and does happen (SVO). However, my opinion is that unless I hear it from Ford or an SVT employee its just a rumor.

Sounds like something that happened to me...
I walk into a local Ford dealership interested in buying a 2003 or 2004 SVT Cobra. I didn't expect them to have one, and they didn't. I begin talking with one of the salemen that claims he is a Mustang "freak" and has been following the line for years. He then asks me why I would want a 03'/04' Cobra when I could get the 05' GT. I told him I am into fast cars and a used supercharged Cobra with 390HP and low miles that costs less than a new 300HP GT is more appealing to me. He laughs and tells me the 05' GT would smoke the 03'/04' SVT Cobra and that Ford never supercharged any of the SVT Cobras. I proceeded to roll my eyes and walk back to my car in amazment.
