So, think of changing it as a "power enhancer".
That is really a stretch.

WoW I never really thought about that actually clogging the A/C and defrostor. I should probably pull mine out because I never saw a need to.

I guess you missed Ford's advertising when they introduced the Contour; they seemed to be pretty proud of that filter. As I recall the ads went something like...
INTRODUCING THE NEW FORD CABIN AIR FILTER!!!
(oh, and there's a car wrapped around it, too)
However I was kind of surprised to see that my '99 has one, I'm surprised that it didn't get decontented over the years. Were they standard in all Contiques for the whole run?

Well, I guess that answers that. It is worth the time to change it. I gotta feeling that it was never changed.
Thanx. Pepse.

I noticed my dash got less dusty after I changed mine. Of course there was a bunch of dirt, nut shells, and leaves around the filter too.

So any idea as how to get off the right windshield wiper so I can replace the airfilter? I have pulled, pried, beaten and everyting else short of using a sledge (my usualy solition when I get mad at things) to get it loose but its stuck on tight and I don't want to break anyting.

You do not have to remove the wipers to replace the cabin filter. Park the wipers in a position that will allow you to access the filter and be careful you don't scratch the hood. There may be a "how to" I know this has been discussed many times.
