Its too bad that the US didnt listen to Richard Deming and start with Lean here versus having him go over to Japan where they would listen. The US and Japan would be totally different places....
The US Auto Industry probably leads the US in Lean and Six Sigma implementation actually (GE might be the biggest and best single US company to use it extensively though). Though that doesn't mean that they're ahead of the Japanese, they do use it extensively. I've done a fair bit of work for them.
