Just did this ... seemed impossible with hand tools. I bought an electric impact wrench (Dewalt) and it spun off like magic. I've heard various opinions about the usefulness of electric vs. air, and my opinion is that this wrench seemed up to the job.
I had a screwdriver jammed in the case to keep it from rotating, and actually cracked the cast housing while leaning on my ratchet. The impact wrench worked with me holding the pulley by hand. I'm sure all who use impact tools will take this for granted, but I really was surprised at how easily the impact wrench took it off.
