Hoo-yah!!! My husband let me sign up for Verizon DSL. Now, I can actually check out the Pics/Videos forum without shouting at the computer while waiting for things to load. Good riddance to dial-up.

Failure is simply the opportunity to begin again, this time more intelligently.

Cable is better.*
--T.J.
*=When it works. Mine freakin' smokes, and I'm only on the intermediate tier of speed. But having worked tech support for Cox for a few months (the Phoenix and Tucson markets), I can tell you that not everyone can get a decent cable signal.

I agree with cable being better, but only because DSL isn't available on my street, and they're too cheap to run new lines a whole mile long. (DSL came to town first in ~2000, but it took us another year till cable came through to get high speed! ) Also faster, from what I hear. We originally started out with 256Kb cable and two years ago upgraded to 3Mb. Which is which: (cable versus DSL) ... one is slower the further from base you are, and the other is slower the more people are signed up in your neighborhood?

DSL is slower further from the base (Central Office) I get 800 kbps at 18000 feet or so from the station. Of course, I am not connected to the New station that is just around the block...Then the speed would be 3-6mbps. Cable slows with neighbors being online. I think cable would be faster for me right now, but maybe not later if the DSL gets rewired...I was at my friend's house, he dials up on AOL, I forgot how slow dialup was!

That's fast, but in Arizona Cox is offering 9Mb down. They'll go fiber optic to the door eventually, but it's hella-expensive to replace all those lines.
--T.J., who could get 5Mb in Vegas but goes with the 4 Mb plan...
