lol, i meant you've thought of things that would never have occured to me! Anyways, i don't think it's clearcoat that has been taken off, either, only because, this "stuff" is at the edges of where the guards are, not where the adhesive was. Check out this pic (good thing I'm a digital camera whore!): http://photos.yahoo.com/bc/dubbadooz/vwp...view=t&.hires=t
the mystery continues :p

:shrugs shoulders: Try heating it up like TheGreatOne suggested... It's clearly on the surface of the paint so it has to come of somehow...

Come on!! Anyone else that has had this problem!!!

confused lol, i thought this would have been a common problem...guess I was wrong. And I'd rather spend the $5 for a bottle of CLR (or whatever the solution may be) than $5 for 3M tape to put the ding guards back on. BTW, (and YES, i read the faq) can someone tell me why, whenever I try to post an actual picture on the forums, I get the dreaded "red X?" Right now I'm doing the [ img ] *cut and paste the link from my yahoo photo album* [ /img ] (without the spaces between the brackets)..perhaps that's another question for another day smile

Yahoo doesn't allow off site loading, that's why you are getting nice red X. Most sites don't allow it anymore. frown It uses up too much of their bandwidth.

It's hard to tell what it is, but...my suggestions:

1. blow dryer to heat it, towel around thumb to rub it off
2. Goo-gone
3. Meguiar's Cleaner Wax

If none of those work and the rubbing compound didn't work.... confused confused

no dice..I spent a good hour just experimenting, not a thing worked! Heck, i even tried PAINT THINNER! NOTHING! And if that wasn't enough, i managed to back into my dad's car in the process (the result of a small driveway with 4 cars) mad . The damage is minimal, and should be able to be rubbed out. yahoo.

I was considering removing my ding whatever's, but now I don't know. I would hate to run into something like this, although I do like the look without them...
