if you bought the car new there wouldn't be a problem.

I am in the label business and when we have GOO to remove we use N-Propyl-Acitate or commonly known as finger nail polish remover.
This stuff will take almost anything off, so pretest it on the inside of the trunk first as it may even take the clear coat off. As usual don't smoke while using it ( as a seed may burn the paint)

heyyy good suggestion! I'm gonna try that tomorrow morning also coming for tomorrow, we bring out the power buffer. Don't lose faith in me! I won't rest until I get this cool . If that doesn't work, I'll take the car to a local body shop and see if they have any idea what it is.

I think I know.
It looks like the clear coat,or rather the strips were holding water and caused the clear coat to get cloudy.it should clear up after it dries out if thats what it is.
Ever see on car bras instructions it says "not to be used on repainted surfaces".Or something like that. This is why.

try meguiars body scrub, about $5 at the auto shop.... that got my edges cleaned up nicely, they looked about as bad as yours, if that doesnt work go after it with claybar, if that doesnt work, get some new ones from ford and put em back on smirk

I actaully made some real headway today..at the place I detail we for, we happened to have some stuff called "Fallout Molding Wax Cleaner." Judging from the smell, it was nothing more than GooGone on steroids. But with that, a heat gun, and some hand glaze, I've gotten it pretty clean. Not perfect, but it's clean. -HWCM- I think you're right on with your description. This "stuff" seems to be part of the paint. "Clouded clear coat" would definately be a good explanation. I'll hafta pick up some of that body scrub, too. Meguiars products have always gotten high marks in my book, and if it doesn't work, well at least I have another goody in my ever growing collection of car wash stuff :p .

There is this stuff called Goof Off that makes Goo Gone look like a joke, but I'm not sure what would happen on automotive paint.

ya know...not really. I got it to an acceptable look, but it's not great, by any means. The weather has just gotten so nasty that I really have no desire to work on it right now. Haha, it looks perfectly fine for just sitting in the driveway :p

i really think that the "stuff" is in the paint, and that the only way to get rid of it is to
1.) repaint the car
or
2.) put the strips back on

i'm leaning towards #2 if I can't solve this mystery
