Tony2005, are you sure the CKP is a Hall effect sensor? I've looked at both Mitchell On-Demand and Alldata wiring diagrams, and both show the CKP and CMP as inductive pick-up coils for the 96 V6.
Pick-up coils are two-wire sensors that produce their own AC voltage, while Hall effect sensors are three-wire sensors that need power and ground to produce a switched DC voltage signal on the third wire.
If there isn't continuity across the two prongs of the CKP, it can't produce an AC signal or any signal for that matter. This should be the first test of any questionable pick-up coil sensor.
