You already had a pre-98 Contour so why not something different. The SHO sounds interesting if it's a 5 speed. How about an older Subaru? I think you can find a 90s Legacy with a 5 speed and of course AWD for winter.

How about a Chrysler 300M, Sebring, Concorde, Buick Regal, Pontiac Bonniville. Nice and roomy.

$$$ is the key issue here, as I am not planning to spend a whole lot on another car (make that 3 once I get another).

You can get any of those for $2500 and up. Look for 1990-1997.

High mileage Focus?  I'd just be wary about getting a Probe. I've heard Probe owners having a hell of a time trying to get parts now. For your price level, maybe get the Contour/Mystique. Or, maybe you can try a last-Gen Escort too.

I have a 1998 Contour SE, Leather interior, Power everything including sunroof, beautiful car. Only 155,000km on it. I need to get $5000 out of it. If you want more info or pics let me know.

As I noted above, I don't plan to spend any more than $3500.00, in fact if I can find one for around $2G's that will even be better.
I already know of a Mystique in Burlington, have known the owner for many years, and he is asking $4500.00 with a lot of mods included. That's still too much for the limit that I have set.

If you're willing to travel to Montreal, I've seen at least 2 1998 Contour SE V6 MTX for around 3000$. The used car market in Montreal is very much a buyers market.
I've even seen a few 1995-1996's SE for around 1500$ that didn't look too bad.

Hi Eric It would be difficult for me to get out to Montreal. All I can say for the cars that I have scouted around the GTA, is that they all look like crap. I can't believe dealers and private sales, really expect someone to pay $1.00 for the condition of these vehicles. I have seen some with bondo all down one side, large dents in the quarter panels, scraped aluminum wheels, busted out trunk locks, cracked windshields, paint that looks like the car has been in Arizona in the sun, for the past 10 years, leather seats that are cracked beyond imagination. I mentioned before, maybe I am setting my standards too high for a used vehicle, but given the condition my SE was when I traded it 2 years ago, and what the value was then, compared to what I see now, I know it is going to take a long time before I find a car that I can say, hey, it's worth the money the person is asking for.  It's really and truly only the CEGr's that take care of their Contours/Mystiques.
