Hey Guys....

I've gone throught two h.o. alternators from paperformance....

wondering if not have caps. is causing it....

I'm running just shy of 1500 watts and when it's really bumping the lights will dim and the voltage gauge will jump......

do you think this could cause my alternators to wreck?? If not, will 1 or 2 pherit(sp??) solve the dimming problems, etc.??

Thanks for your input.

it won't hurt your alternators if you don't add them, but they *may* help the dimming situation. i'm not sure why you'd bother with a HO alternator as the stocker is more than sufficient for the vast majority of non-spl competetion systems.

there really is no need for a cap. For 90% of the people who use them on this site, i'd say it's more aesthetic than anything (even if that was not the intended purpose).

i have a cap on mine and i run 1500 watts, still the lights dim, apparently there seem to be some issues with ground wires, according to who you talk too. Though i got to ask, how long do caps remain good for? I been told they should last indefinetly, but im not so sure about it. any other interesting facts about caps floating around?

from what I understand, caps aren't very effective if you listen to a lot of rap/hip-hop, or any music where the bass hits constantly. the cap charges when the bass isn't really hitting, so it's pretty much just a middleman to the battery if it's on a constant drain.

I'm running 1800 watts (if you count the total maximum power) on my system and I have had no problem with my alternator. Although I do need to have the car on when playing the system loud, otherwise my subs pop. I have heard that caps make your system louder, don't know how true that is though.

It's not at all true.
