Hi guys, I'm a long-time lurker, first time poster, and here is my dilemma

I will be stuck in a timewarp for calendar year 2006 and am weighing what my best option will be in terms of having a car with a soul similar to that of my SVT.

Now on the one hand, I can keep my Contour, and have a 3.0L block, headers, and a few other go-fast bits installed (lack of skill and resources make doing the install not an option).

On the other, I can sell the SVT and take my chances with what's available in 2007 in terms of things like used Altimas, 300C's, Legacy's, and whatnot. Any of those would outdo my SVT in a line or round a bend, and may be more fun...

Alright, your thoughts?

As I'm sure you're aware the Contour SVT was just about as cool a car as was out there when it first appeared in 1998. Its 200(ish) horsepower output was still rare, could comfortably seat four, and outhandled anything near its class--all in a package you would never guess housed such thunder.

Fast forward to today's car climate where there are horsepower wars and AWD drivelines as far as the eye can see.

How do you figure a 300c will out run your svt around a bend? The only car out of the group that you mentioned that I would consider would be the legacy. My opinion is do the 3L swap.

I went for the Legacy because it offered the performance right out of the box..

with a warranty
updated safety equipment
easy upgrade in performance
updated style
AWD
reliability

The legacy still has plenty of faults...
crappy tires
stereo could be better
def get the short throw shifter
softer suspension
slight turbo lag
hard seats
rattles, clutch smell.

Ford doesn't get much respect either.

To be honest, I haven't so much as sat in a 300C, but RWD/AWD and 340HP sound like a lot to deal with.

Did you want to save up to buy a house in 5 years, or pay off your credit cards or take vacations...

Or did you want to make payments on a $30,000+ car instead?

By comparison, a 3.0L SVT is almost a free car.

How reliable is your car being right now? If it appears in excellent condition and feels like it'll last you a good five plus years then go for it! However, if it hasn't been (for example, mine's been in the shop many more times this year than I'd like, and I've probably put upwards of $4000 into repairs/maintenance in the past year), then plan on replacing it with something that might actually be on the road when you need it.

IMO you will not find a car more unique than the CSVT. Everything looks the same nowadays. turbo/AWD blah blah blah.
