As mentioned the highbeam Silverstars are the exact wattage as the low beam just without the reflective shield in front of the bulb, IIRC.

The only thing I can think of is that our high beams usually aren't on for what, an hour or so at a time normally like our lows are so the extra heat might have something to do with it

This means that both bulbs run at the same temps. This means... There is no difference in heat except in front of the light emmitting portion of the bulb on the undipped beams. This HAS to be a one-time thing. I seriously don't think it should be a problem.

I had the Cuzos, but they were the low beam ones, and IIRC, the highs for the Cuzos were like 110W, the Silverstars are only 60w. I've had the highs in lows in my beater car w/o any problems and its been over 2 1/2 years now

happened to my friend twice. i think the contour bulb sockets are tougher then most others. i had highs in the low for about 4 months with now probs and they were the 120 watt from some n company, but i already broke the clips on the bulb socket neway so i didnt care about it getting brittle or whatnot.

I was in the auto store today with both Silverstar 9006s and 9005s in my hand

9005 = 65w
9006 = 55w

Higher wattage + longer running time = melted sockets

Not true at all! I had the highs in the lows in my wifes Ranier which has DRL. The only problem I had was the damn bulbs burning out after 6 monthes, that got old, real old! I ended up replacing them with "X-tra visions" and all is back to normal. FWIW, I didn't take any chances, I replaced them with 9006's per her request

Are you saying the wattage isn't true or the melted sockets part isn't true?

The melted socket and heres why. My wifes Ranier has DRL and the sockets NEVER melted, ever! I had em' (9005's in the low beams) and the only reason I got rid of them was one would burn out about every 6 monthes and for that cost, I could've ended up with HIDs
