Model specifications, common problems (and fixes) parts lists, guides.. etc, etc... SVT's aren't really THAT much more than a non-svt trim. You can get a good, used SVT 98-99 model for around 10,500.. possibly lower... I got mine for 11, with only 28k miles on it. pristine condition. higher milage will drop price significantly, too.. Insurance isn't much more, and if you have a winter beater, it would be even less than that, because it would be a second car.. and not a main driver.. overall opinion.... GREAT vehicle... good ride, nice style.. eye-catcher, with the potential to be even more so.. common problems plague it, and it isn't the fastest on the road, but... Icertainly feel like a million bucks in MY little car.... The ultimate sleeper.. EDIT: Welcome to the CEG... I am sure you will enjoy your stay, here... Ray

In my opinion the CSVT and the 'regular' Contour / Mystique aren't even in the same league. I think it'd be approiate if the CSVT didn't say "Contour" on it, because it's just not comparable to the reputation "Contour" has attatched to it. I'd go CSVT or nothing, but that's me.

Seems to me that the ones with SVT's have more problems, and there were even a few that tried to get Ford to buy the car back.
75% of an SVT is a regular Contour, so denial of its origins is.... :p

Spammers will be dealt with very harshly!} ------- Moonlight Blue 1996 Mercury Mystique GS , Zetec engine, ATX. No mods. (Well, OK, one mod. Before I got rid of my previous car, a 1994 Tempo, I swapped radios. I liked the Tempo's radio better. That counts as a mod, doesn't it? I also kept one of my Tempo's wheels to use as a spare. I hate those stupid ?compact? spares that come with modern cars. Does this count as a mod? If so, I guess I have two mods. Replaced burned/melted blower switch and connector on 19 February 2002 with a 1P3T toggle switch from Marvac and a Molex connector from Rat Shack; I guess this now makes three mods.)

Get a Manual The automatics are more unreliable. Take it from some one who's put 3 trannies in his car.
