One of my friends has a MKIII Jetta. It is a great car ... well, was a great car till today when she scraped a rock (in the torrential rain, and at this particular parking lot, it's hard to judge) and put a giant gaping hole in the gas tank.

Very long story about that involving colorful words to describe the fire department's handling of the situation and her sincere appreciation of the campus police helping her out. The fire dept was going to fine her $5K if she didn't move the car, because gas was pouring into a storm drain, and then left after telling her to move the car and that AAA won't tow it. Campus police consoled her among hearing this information, sought out a bucket to collect the gas in, told her they would dispose of it properly, she should go home and dry up, and they'd call her cell when it emptied fully so she could tell AAA to take it away.
So yeah, watch the road for high points.
I like the car otherwise. Not a huge fan of the MKIII (tiny back seat, and I much prefer the MKIV aesthetically) but it's certainly clean given its age.
