I refuse to buy any of these since once you buy it there is something newer and better out. I've been lucky and people seem to like giving them to me instead. If it wasn't for that I would still be ant-iPod

Lucky you to be getting such expensive presents.

I have a 10GB third-generation iPod. Dismally scratched and has some plastic bits loose inside (you can hear several things rattle when you shake it ) ... low battery life, but not low enough to quality for Apple's refund, and occasionally I've found it shut itself off on the drive home for no reason. Regardless of its wear and tear I still love the thing.

Paid $69 ($30 off student discount, $200 off rebate combined with purchase of $2599 titanium PowerBook; in tax-free New Hampshire) two years and three months ago.

If my iPod dropped and I needed to replace it *today*, I'd get a 40 or 60 GB fourth-gen iPod refurbished. I've found it useful in carrying documents around, but my music library playlists (not even the entire library) takes up most of the space of my 10GB one.
