connery is was the best hands down. No i dont think robbie williams is that big of a star as much as he was a few years ago, but have you ever seen his interviews? hes one of the funniest, wittiest and sarcastic guys ive seen. I think he'd bring that womanizing, self-righteous arrogance that the book bond was.

Exactly. In terms of pure performance, Dalton had the dark, brooding and restrained temper thing down cold. He was by far and away my favorite Bond in terms of acting ability
blasphemy! although in terms of success by the numbers brosnan was tops, everyone knows sean connery was the best bond evAr!
dalton was ok, but came off as boring and stuffy. he just didn't have the mischievous cool of a connery, moore, or brosnan imo.

Connery had the look, the voice and the action, but he was missing that brooding, seething "rip your throat out" aura that Dalton exhuded.
Overall, I'll give you that he was the best "Bond" package so far, but if acting chops and REALLY lining the character up with how Ian Flemming wrote Bond, Dalton kicks everyone into the bog. It's just too bad he didn't have the "look".

I think this has more to do with the time period that the actors performed in. During Conery's reign the judo chop was macho and very impressive. In our time it became a joke and lame.
Conery is far and away the best example as he was the best looking and most suave.

The name James Bond comes from the author of a book on birds of the West Indies.
Quote:
The look of James Bond is famed for being "suave and sophisticated." In Casino Royale the character Vesper Lynd says of Bond, "He reminds me rather of Hoagy Carmichael, but there is something cold and ruthless." Carmichael would later be the basis as James Bond for artist Mike Grell and his series of James Bond comic books, while the Hoagy Carmichael description would be repeated in later Bond stories written by John Gardner.
"correctomundo" on the name. It was a book that was supposedly just sitting on his table and he was looking for a "normal" name to use.
For the inspiration of the character I was actually referring to Bond himself, not his look. what were Bond's adventures (loosely) based on??

Dalton was always my favorite. Just the "Stop F'ing around!" attitude he had made all the difference. Connery is my second favorite, then Moore, the Brosnan, then Lazenby. *SHUDDERS* But don't get me wrong, there is a HUGE talent gap between Brosnan and Lazenby.

I agree with most that Connery was the best. They all had some moments. I actually thought Lazenby did a good job. Some of the cornball crap that was in the Moore era was just pathetic. I think my favorite movies are From Russia with Love and Goldfinger. The really smart thing about the Bond movies is that they don't stray from the formula; girls, guns, gadgets. They are all predictable, yet still always entertaining. Some more than others.
