What if you sell your rims though? Do you scrape out the etching or something?

Now, the only issue would be selling the wheels, you'd have to have the VIN removed or ground off, but still. It's a perfect way of safeguarding your wheels while you own them. I mean, I don't know about you, but I do things to my car or stuff acting as if I will have it forever.
Just go up to an arts supply store, they sell a chemical etching compound, some come with stencils. You can also do your windows while you are at it. Very simple process, and perminant in ALL situations except for HEAVY grinding.
Alot of Police Dept will do this service free of charge or for 5 bucks or so. Call you local Poilice Dept and ask if they offer this or know of one that does.
Edit: Selling
Selling an item with a vin # on it isn't illegal, alot of times, a document stating the sale of the wheels and noteing that the rims have been protected by an etched VIN would be all that is required. Like I said, the only way of removing it is to grind it off the alloy or metal.

I have no idea what you're talking about, but are you talking about yourself? Another genius...Why did you think I was attacking you? Who had their tires stolen and has the stream of obsenities as their tag? NOT YOU STUPID!

anyone else planning on continuing personal attacks/flames in this thread better do it through pm's or they will be dealt with harshly. Take that as a warning ALL OF YOU.
Thanks

I do hope you are not talking about me.
And he is right, though. That comment of yours is in the bio of Jlyon's profile. You guys know each other? Just stating the obvious, no attack, no flaming, just an observation of the obvious.
back on topic. I think etching or putting drivers license numbers or addresses are probably not a good idea. A VIN number isn't personal information as a vin is pretty much readily availble to be read by anyone.

sure your not making it sound this way but with that argument it seems like vin etching is a waste of time then? but it will at least let someone know that the part belongs with a certain car and that has the connection through the plate to the DMV to the owner

LOL. N2EAL, you might want to put quotes on it next time. Sometimes, sacarsm gets lost in the heat of a moment. LOL. And yes, this boy ain't putting no personal info on the inside of the wheels. (of course, few crooks are going to steal my 9.5 year old steelies).

Learn how to use the Quote function when making your post, because it looks like you are talking about yourself. Although I know you are not.

Can't use quote function like this as N2EAL was copying it from the signature of the banished CEGer. Yes, he should have put the quotation marks and maybe put a sarcasm note on it.
