I was the first one to do this and write the how too with bill jenkins. Read The how too again. It sounds like you tapped into a hot wire. If i remember right ( it being 2 years now) i tapped into the hot wire for the moon roof. I am pretty sure that mine doesn't light until it is in the run possition. acc it is off.

For recontenting the door handle hit your local radio shack and pick up some 12v LED's. i think the y are 2 bucks a pack. you have to modify the interor bezzel in the door. for fitment. again hit a wire that is only hot when the ignition is in the on position. i think i tapped into a window wire.
