Weird Question:

Has anyone ever experienced the oil cap to somehow break apart on the top of it where the grip part is?

It kind of looks like it detonated on the top partââ?¬â??the part that threads onto the UIM seems to be fine although there might be a slight gapââ?¬â??I can't really tell.

I can't figure out how this happened or whyââ?¬â?? I guess this could of happened while I was changing the oil. Either that or it is something that may have happened for a reason.

Any thoughts?

I've seen the "handle" come off an oil cap before - but are you saying your brokes into pieces?

Try glueing it if you can, my only suggesting as I can't see what exactly you're describing....

So.... you don't know if you broke i toff while changine the oil... ot is it just blew up under the hood?

I fyou are talking abotu the top part of the cap (with the little oil symbol on it), it's made of a birttle plastic that could break (I guess) if you over tintended the cap (however, doesn;t it click when you tighten it, though).

I don't know, just grap a pair of needle nose pliers and unscrew it out. Buy a billet aluminum one from Bat or many toher places for 20 bucks and call it a day.

Yeah, it is the round cap that clicks when tightened and has the oil symbol on it.

The plastic on top broke for whatever reason. I can take it off without problem. I was just curious as to what might cause this other than my clumsiness.

Thank for the input though!

The spring loaded center section of my cap died a while back. The entire cap did not come apart but it was starting to slip when you tried to take it off.

I replaced it with a bling, bling aluminum cap from Autozone. ($5 IIRC)

What they make some now that fit our cars? I'm guessing it's a Focus part, right?

Standard metric oil cap.

The generic one for a Honda fits my stock valve covers. I've had one for several years now. You how I like bling.

It would be real easy to powder coat any color you wanted though and it's inexpensive to start with.
