If I am not mistaken, Max Shreck was really Alfred Abel. No knowledge of his drinking habits, however.
The first name that popped into my mind in this category was Hannibal Lecter. But I was scared out of my Ford-driving mind by Michael Myers, who was designed to resemble the type of pursuer that one has in nightmares: Human in shape, but somehow able to move very quickly despite their apparent slow walk.
