I always thought that Alan Rickman did an awesome job as Hans Gruber in the first Die Hard movie.

The first name that popped into my mind in this category was Hannibal Lecter. But I was scared out of my Ford-driving mind by Michael Myers, who was designed to resemble the type of pursuer that one has in nightmares: Human in shape, but somehow able to move very quickly despite their apparent slow walk. And there is a reason that the final confronatation int he original Halloween takes place in the closet.......
