Some of it just comes down to differing tastes, it would be a lot of fun to dissect the car with you (both). I prefer the Milan's front and rear treatment too.

Would it have killed Ford to give the Milan a different rear door to give it a different greenhouse appearance?

I am a Ford fan as well, but I really don't like their new styling directiobn much, and they really need to do more to differentiate their brand lines.

In today's automotive environment, i'd say that is an unqualified affirmative.

Yet all three body styles of the Mazda6 have a unique rear door.

When it comes down to it, either spend the money to make Mercury a truly different line of cars from Ford (think Chrysler) or just kill it off once and for all.

6-speed? So Pontiac finally trashed those dinosaur 4-speed autos or are you talking about a manual? Either way, I'm not touching a GM after our last Buick...

Manual. The 4-speed is still alive and kicking. Better yet it's connected to the ancient 3800 V6 in the brand-new Buick Lucerne (which isn't really new, it's on a 10 year old platform). GM somehow claims it's a competitor to the Toyota Avalon and Lexus ES330. You can get the 4.6 Northstar as an option, but it makes 275hp compared to 280 from the 3.5 V6 in the Avalon.

It's like GM is trying to run themselves out of business. Except for a few models here and there, they make cars just decent enough to string along their ultra-loyal customers who have been buying GM products since the dawn of time.
