some times it is a p0402 and then it will be p0401. what is wrong

Is this cleaning true for the 4 cylinders. I read the thread and it appears everyone is just talking about the 6. I have a PO402 on a 96 4 cylinder.

Yes, but since you get both codes I would also think it is the DPFE or maybe the EVR.

Contradictory codes from the same sensor usually indicate the sensor is faulty.
I'd strongly lean on the DPFE sensor as the suspect.

MystRacing, Just realized you were posing a question to me (us). I really can't tell you if the cleaning is really good for V6 or I4. But I can tell you my experience. I had the EGR passages cleaned at 60K and 80K (eventhough I didn't have the 401 or 402 codes). My DPFE still works fine (no codes or idling issues attributed to it) at 83K and 9.5 years. So take the advice for what it is worth. Good luck.
