After looking at the pictures again, I've changed my mind. Those are definately 3/8" pitch cam sprockets which double checks with the reported part numbers. The teeth on 8mm pitch cams are much smaller and very rounded, not pointy like those.
But I still can't figure out why the chains aren't seating. There's no way the chains are 8mm ones. Only the 3/8" pitch chains have big fat links like those. Is the chain seating ok on the crank sprocket?
It doesn't look right, BUT it's right. I looked yesterday at the blown stock 2.5L I have outside my garage and it looks exactly the same.

thanks for the info. i have to redo it anyway....i made a really bad noob mistake....got way to ahead of myself......see in the pic i am missing the motor mount/powersteering pum bracket.....so off it comes and have to bear the cold and hurry up and pull this motor so i cna continue the 2.5 parts i need to swap over.......arrrrggggg.........
