You need to count the number of teeth on your SVT
cams against the 3.0 cams. Sounds like you used the wrong
chains.

Steve can you take another photo with the "other" set of chains you have, lying on top and inline with the chians on the engine now, for reference?

The chains look right to me. The smaller pitch chains are noticeably different.

Are you sure you don't have the wrong cams?

You should pull off one timing chain and then test fit your other chains to be sure. Pull the part numbers off the cams just to be sure as well.

Yeah another trick to try is to lay the chains over your cams with them being wrapped around the cams - do they seat all the way into the sprocket teeth when you do that??

You know what Tom? Look at the pics of the chains on the sprockets. It looks like the links between the pins are resting on the tops of the teeth - thus stopping the pins from seating deeper into the sprockets. I wonder if the cams are indeed wrong??

Yeah. That's what I thought when I saw it too.

The chains look like old style chains to me but I'm thinking the cams may be for the smaller pitch chains. If that's correct then it means he/someone may have mixed them up?

So I'm not really familiar with 2000 model year SVTs but I do know that 1999 used the large pitch chains and cams. I THOUGHT that all SVT cams used the larger pitch chains.
It looks to me like you have large pitch chains on small pitch cam sprockets.

So unless someone can verify that MY2000 cams were small pitch then I'd think you don't have SVT cams in there.

Who has worked with MY2000 SVT cams and can tell us absolutely whether they are small pitch or large pitch sprockets?

The switch from 3/8in pitch to 8mm pitch was a running change during the 2000 model year.

It looks like 8mm pitch cams to me with a 3/8in pitch chain. Check the laser etched part numbers on the cam to positively identify. Part number will be in the form XXX-6A26*-XX (Prefix-Base-Suffix)
Base numbers are:
6A266 for Intake RH
6A267 for Intake LH
6A268 for Exhaust RH
6A269 for Exhaust LH

3/8" pitch SVT cams will have F73E prefix. 8mm pitch SVT cams will have 1S7E prefix and suffix must be DA. (CA was non-svt)
