Id say its debatable if ABS stops you faster than non ABS brakes but its main purpose of course is to keep your tires from locking up and you loosing control. My old Grand Marquis didnt have ABS and i loved how well it would stop but if i ever really slammed the brakes i would loose all traction in the front wheels
and that is no fun.
