Mark (98-contour-zetec), he changed it after my suggestion to put in the signature. FYI, your signature changes all your posts. Try it and you will see all your previous posts with the new signature.

Edit. In addition, if you change your screen name, all your previous posts will also have your new screen name.

Checked the fluid earlier today, and its a light pink color...I may just go ahead and do a drain and fill as you suggested before proceeding with the TSS. The link in the FAQ for the TSS (fastcougar's site) doesn't work, so if someone has an updated link I would greatly appreciate it if I have to go ahead and change that. A friend of mine suggested throwin in some "Lucas Transmission Fix"...good idea? or stay away? Thanks for all the info guys

Fluid level for tranny is correct too, btw

Actually, do the TSS before the ATF change. You probably need to spray some PB blaster on the TSS to get it loose. As for the Lucas Transmission Fix, I don't know. Someone who has used it may want to comment.

Tony, do you or anyone else have the TSS howto saved somewhere? Only link I found was this one:

http://www.fastcougar.com/forums/messageview.cfm?catid=14&threadid=70919

and apparently doesn't exist any longer.

thanks

And this is the official Ford CD TSS how to.

Turbine Shaft Speed (TSS) Sensor

Removal

1. Raise and support the vehicle.
2. Place a drain pan beneath the turbine shaft speed (TSS) sensor.
3. Remove the TSS sensor.
-Disconnect the TSS sensor electrical connector.
-Remove the bolt.
-Inspect the TSS sensor bore.
4. Inspect the O - ring seal for nicks or cuts; install a new as necessary.

Installation
Note:
Apply a light coat of petroleum jelly to the O - ring seal before installation.
1. Install the TSS sensor.
-Connect the TSS electrical connector.
2. Remove the drain pan.
3. Lower the vehicle.
4. Check the transmission fluid level, add Motorcraft MERCON Multi - purpose automatic transmission fluid or equivalent meeting MERCON specification as necessary.
5. Start the engine and move the transaxle range selector lever through all gear positions.

Ok, here's an update as to what I've done to the car thus far:

**Ignition Wires changed (not OEM or 9mm...just standard wires)

**Fuel filter changed (Purolator)

**Reset Computer (Pulled #4 and #11 fuses in Power Distribution Box--I searched and it said to pull 9 and 11 but I have no #9 fuse)

I have yet to change the oil, replace the tss, replace the valve cover gasket or do a drain & fill on the tranny.

Now...the first day I drove this after replacing those items, the car seemed to shift ALOT better...still got a slight 1-2 bang in the shifting, but overall better. The downside though, now my gas mileage is sucking very bad. 102 miles on a half tank of gas . Would that come from the computer reset and having to "re-learn"??

Now to the TSS

I turned the wheel to the right at first and started to remove what I thought was the TSS...lol boy was I mistaken. I don't know what this part is but you can see it when you turn the wheel to the right. Anyway, it just slipped right out and I noticed it was no where near the same part...peculiar thing is, that there were metal shavings on the magnet on this part. I reinstalled it, came back in the house and felt like an idiot after reading I was supposed to turn the wheel to the LEFT I sprayed some liquid wrench on it tried later to get it off, no go. I sprayed some more on it, along with WD-40....still wouldn't budge. So, I left it alone because I was running out of daylight, and went out a little bit ago to give it another try, and its still stuck in there. I can't find any of that "PB Blaster" that was mentioned earlier--all the auto parts stores around here look at me like I'm stupid when I ask them-- so...any other ideas besides breaking the piece?

That's all for now...I appreciate all you guys' help and suggestions thus far, and hopefully you can answer a few of the questions here for me.

Thanks

Fuses 4 and 11 are the correct fuses to relearn the PCM. Don't measure mileage with the fuel gauge. Check the number of gallons with miles and average it over a few tankfulls.

Don't break the TSS. Spray WD 40, Liquid Wrench, PB Blaster or whatever and let it work itself in to loosen it.
