They're a little tricky. I read that some people have romoved the headlight. You shouldn't have to remove the battery ... it'll get out without. I don't know if that's much help ...
But as for bulbs I'll highly recommend the high beam in low beam that many people have done. Even the cheapest high beam bulbs will significantly improve your lighting.
