And I live so close to Newark, DE that UPS Ground is next day for me - quicker than anyone would quote delivery. Of course, every shop I called tried to sell me on the horrors of ordering online/mail order as justification for their higher prices. Since I have never had a single problem with Tire Rack, I laughed when they did that and bid them good day.

I've been buying tires from the tire rack since '90. Remember back when you had to call places because there was no Web? I've never had a problem with them and their prices are untouchable locally, even when you figure in shipping and mounting.

BT: I've got Kelly, Goodyear, and Cooper in stock in your size. Me: Huh? No Michelin, Bridgestone, BFG, or Yok? BT: No, but we can get any tire you want special order. Me: Okay then, give me a price on tire X. BT: Opens up Tirerack catalog, punches numbers in calculator, then gives me price. Me: Wow that's a lot! Is that a Tirerack catalog? BT: Yes Me: How much for just mounting and balancing? BT: $10-$15 Me: Thank you, Bye.

It seems like every year, the offerings for Goodyear keep shrinking while the Jap crap keeps growing. I wonder how many Goodyears they sell in Japan? Whats wrong with Goodyear, Kelly or Cooper?

Like I said i looked at tire rack for both rims and tires, and they do have a bigger selection on tires, but i have seen cheaper prices. And rims. there a complete rip off. It might be just because i live in chicago, and there are rim and tire shops all over, but i would NEVER buy from tire rack, just becuse i hate waiting and im positive i can get it cheaper. The key is usually not buying it from large chain stores, but from smaller shops.

They all make good tires and depending on your criteria, nothing wrong with them. Got some Goodyears on the wife's pickup and will probably get another set. They just don't make any good high performance tires which is what I usually buy. Tirerack does not offer many cheaper tires. I can go get $25 tires from a local place that I cannot at Tirerack as an extreme example. But they don't offer too many $50 standard passenger car tires. Each time I'm ready to buy tires, I look at what Tirerack has, then hit some local palces to see what's best for me that time. More options = more compitition = better for consumer.

My point is that the Goodyears and such are decent quality American made stuff. You can't tell me that they are not and that the crap made in Korea or somewhere else is more technologically advanced. The Japs and the like virtually shut the door on our goods! Sure, some of the tires used by many of you guys may offer good performance, but are they practical for daily transportation through the rain and snow, on potholed roads, etc. How long will they last - 10,000 miles? How much do they cost? If we don't start patronizing American products, all of us will be driving Nissan Sentras with Kumho tires, NGK and Nippondenso components, etc,....while we are all working as stock boys for Tire Rack or flipping burgers.

Where a tire is manufactured (because of cheap labor markets) has nothing to do with how it was designed or how the plant is run. Sure, some of the tires used by many of you guys may offer good performance, but are they practical for daily transportation through the rain and snow, on potholed roads, etc. How long will they last - 10,000 miles? How much do they cost? One of my favorite tires (kinda old tech now) is the Yokohama AVS Intermediate. Sticky, cheap didn't last long, maybe 20k miles modestly. The OEM tire on the SVT Contours was a BFG KDW which is one of the stickiest tires on the market and many poeple get 35k miles out of them. Your mileage may vary. 35k miles for a decent ride quality (but loud) and very grippy is something most enthusiasts can live with. Those of us that drive hard pay a extra on maintainance and wear. To us it is worth the "extra costs" even though they aren't extra to us. They work well in the rain too (no snow, though). Many enthusiasts prefer to not give up any grip in the summer or winter which is why we have sets of dedicated tires for each. Does it cost more up front - yes. Worth it? To each their own - me, yes. Until you've driven 60mph through 6" of snow in a normal sedan with Blizzaks, you just don't understand. Also, if you've never doubled a turn's rated speed, you don't understand. Do you care? Maybe not and Goodyear will be happy to sell you a tire that'll last you 80k miles. Just make sure you let me pass when my car is a little more capable is all I ask. Cost: More than your average tire that agian, some are willing to pay. If we don't start patronizing American products, all of us will be driving Nissan Sentras with Kumho tires, NGK and Nippondenso components, etc,....while we are all working as stock boys for Tire Rack or flipping burgers. I don't agree. It is an open market, and competition is good for consumers. Here is a simplified example. I buy the highest performing tire, let's say it is made by Yokohoma. Goodyear then takes notice that others are too. Now they want some of that market. Okay, spend some R&D and they make a tire for the next time I'm ready to buy and I get the better Goodyear now. So, I get the best tire both times and America gets half my money. Win - win. Now let's say I just get the Goodyear in the first place that I feel is inferior is some way. Goodyear thinks the tire I bought was exactly what I wanted so they keep making the same line of tires. So, US still get's their money but I'm not happy twice. All I want is to be happy, Dan. I don't like to buy inferior products out of charity. I give plenty to my church. Aaron
