What you're talking about here is an escrow. As soon as CEG becomes involved in the buying/selling process Lance and the escrow take on some liability. The classifieds are buyer beware and should remain that way. There are already escrow services out there that you can use if you're not sure of a seller.

Agreed.
I suggest for those who use the classifieds, to always send money through paypal. Then you have a simple way of recovery for your money, if the seller turns out to be a fraud. And that is also documented proof that the seller DID recieve funds and DID accept them. (vs. money orders, or w/e)

Deffintly, that is ahuge liability for a site to take on, Paypal or credit card is the only way. Don't send cash, don't send money orders, atleast with paypal and credit cars, you have a lot to fall back on incase there are a few [censored] on CEG/ lurkers who suck.
What about simply not allowing classified ads to "non memebers" liek most other sites do? AS moderator of classifieds, I can always delete those ads form the non memebers...although some people who are non memebers or just joined to post the ads could have some great things up for sale.
...and are active members list isn't in the hundred or even thousands like Vortex, focal jet, and others, though.

I'm sorry.. what did you mean, Chad? Active list not in the hundreds? What do you mean, "active"?
Daily unique logins? Total members? Active logins in the last week/month/year?
Ray
PS.
Here are a few stats:
Users 12162
New Users in past 24 hours 8 New Users in past 7 days 58 New Users in past month 220
Users that have logged in the past 24 hours 475 Users that have logged in the past 7 days 1019 Users that have logged in the past month 1646 Users that have never logged in 356
So, of all 12,xxx only 300 have never logged in, and 1600 of which have logged in during the last month. An average of almost 500 unique logins per DAY and 8 new users per day. In case nobody knew, we have one of the LARGEST forums/user lists on the web (NASA, MS, etc, excluded)

Stupid Ray always has his stupid Nasa calculations.
I dunno, I think Iw as just going by the 60 or so online at one time... never thought there were THAT MANY peopel logged on in a day... I feel special, now.
In summary, those people who join JUST to sell something, I dunno... do they pose a risk? Of all teh problems in classifieds with dead beet sellers, how many were frequent people and how many were nobodys?
..uh ohh.. I think I just answered my own question. Most seem to be frequent guys.

I'm going to file with Paypal for my own protection (sorry for the lack of faith Chris) I hope to receive the TB in Good shape soon. When I do I'll post the letter Thanks for those who showed their support. Pete

I am glad that all of you have gotten your items! It seems that Chris might be a bit slow with sending things but really, he isn't a bad guy. Just my 2 cents.
