Ouch, that sounds kinda risky. I used the heat gun and a credit card. The stripes came right off, then I hit it with some adhesive/wax/grease remover to remove any gunk. Rewax and enjoy the new look.
I guess a razor blade would work if you laid it flat enough. The cutting edge wouldn't be riding on the paint.
