Wow. A dremel....Wow. I used a 4" cutoff wheel on a pneumatic die grinder. Once I decided to cut I had it off in about 15 min. 5 min was a bit too small of an estimate, but it has been 4 years!

3" pnuematic cut-off tool. Yea, I made 4 cuts, they just went fron one seide to the other on each, (made 8 pieces total) Took a little while cause I only have 30 Gallon cap. on my compressor. So when it gets low, it loses some cutting power.

Thanks for the info, I will go get a air cutoff tool. I have a electric dremel that worked pretty well for bolts and stuff.
Appreciate all the info

I seem to be having this same problem. I have broke two rachets and two sockets will trying to remove the pulley. Do I have to remove the pulley before trying to remove that bolt?
I also just want to be sure that both the pulley bolt and the main bolt or reverse threads.
I was thinking about just cutting the pulley off and moving on the the inside bolt. Is this a good idea or should I keep breaking rachets?
Thanks for the help.

I suggest cutting off the pully right before the hex. Then trying to get it off again. If you break another ratchet...i hope your smart and buy craftsman. anyways, if that doesnt work youll have to cut it out like mentioned above...heres a pic that might help.

lmfao....
I am such an idiot. I thought the pulley screwed into the black shaft. Its all one [censored] piece?
I was taking a rachet and turning the bolt on end of pulley while using a pipe wrench / adjustable wrench to hold the black shaft from moving. It looked to me like the thing to do since there was that nice spot on the shaft for a wrench to go inorder to hold the crank still. I guess I'll have to hold the crank still from the back of engine on the flywheel?
Hopefully I won't need to cut at all.
Ohhh....and yes I set my stanley tools aside and was breaking only craftsman. I'm pretty sure stanley has a lifetime warranty too but I have no clue where to go for an exchange. Sears is a lot easier.

Hahah. At least you're honest.
Yeah, lock up the flywheel and then get on it with a breaker bar and turn it to the RIGHT! If is left hand thread on that shaft. When that comes off then pull off the damper normally since it has normal threads.

Yup 1 piece. Everyone makes mistakes...as long as you learn from em. If you can't get it off with the new info, you still may want to try cutting where i said. then throwing a socket on the hex. You lose some power transfering all that torque through that 6" of bolt.

All the ones I've had to get off have come off without any cutting needed. I usually hold the flexplate with a crow bar wedged in one of the teeth and turn the pully nut with a torque wrench to break it loose. Awkward but it works.
