Just found this site, and just want to say you are not the only one currently having this problem. I am working on my project Sable with a 3L Duratec and stuck at the same problem. Exact same problem. Only difference my engine is still in the car.

So did you grind off the whole cover? Any pics to show the final results?

Any particulars would help me along with this problem.
