Well when he ran the scan he was "doing it right before my eyes" Pardon the pun. He showed me the screen and frankly I'm not sure what he would have to gain by misleading me. After all he told me he doesn't change O2's at his shop.

Check related items first before the EGR. A code is only part of the solution...it will take a tech some time and skill to figure out the root cause of the flickering light. You should have gotten an alphanumeric code that will tell you a possible problem. These codes are standardized across almost all automakers.
