I worked for an accounting firm and one of the things that was stressed was that even though we printed all the files on our paper, the files were the property of the client.
Those files are your father's files and he is entitled to them.

Yet another person who thinks taking a class in something makes them a genius. But anyways, I will take 'soem' classes once you answer the questions I asked in the other thread.

Davo,
Chill out or you get a break. You just came in to start a fight! You added nothing to this thread.

Andy W. The problem with America is stupidity. I'm not saying there should be a capital punishment for stupidity, but why don't we just take the safety labels off of everything and let the problem solve itself?

I, too, have taken many classes in contract law, and even had to go thru this same situation myself once. What he said makes complete sense.

First, attempt an "out of court" settlement. Simply sending a letter stating intent to sue for the paperwork should be more than enough for her to realize she better return the paperwork. Again, make sure to CC your lawyer, and request a return receipt with signature, to prove she received the letter. (It will help in court, if you go that far.)

If that doesn't work, gather the documentation for the exchasnge of services, and file suit. If it drags on she will also be responsible for the late charges incurred on your taxes, due to the suit, so be sure to include that in your filing, if it goes that far.

Hmm, looks like it has law stuff in it.

I'm no attorney, but I am working on a Business degree reuqiring a good amount of study in Law (no where near as deep as an attorney, though ). Thanks E1.

Why isn't your attorney writing the letter?

Because it's smart, and cheaper. It will also count as a first attempt if the situation escalates and goes to court. The other party will see that his lawyer was copied and will then have to decide if they want to continue to play. A couple bucks for postage may end the situation.
