You drove a supercharged focus that had a roots type blower. Very big difference between that and the centrifugal type blower we can get on the contour. The Turbo way outperforms the centrifugal supercharger in mid range to the top end.
So we really aren't comparing the same type of supercharger. A roots type of blower on a V6 would be a different animal entirely than what we are used to though it wouldn't necessarily be better.
The GT28 on that focus had lack because it was sized big for big power. The GT28 on a 2.5L V6 (a bigger motor) would equal almost zero lag depending on the exhaust housing side. I'm talking boost from 1500rpm and probably full boost by 2000 rpm. It would probably carry max boost to 5500 then fall on its face at higher rpms.
Zero lag at low rpm means more restrictive exhaust and less topend, effectively making it very similar in performance to a roots type blower but without as much drivetrain loss.
So you can't compare the things together. Trust us that the properly sized turbo for YOUR desired driving habits will be superior in most cases.

thankyou warmonger it all makes more sense now the fact that ive never driven a turbo or supercharged V6 and the fact that i dont know an awful lot about different types of supercharger (in fact i didnt know u could get different types of supercharger) and the fact that i already said turbos r capable of more power any way i can only go on what ive driven and seen
take the new mitsubishi evoV111 fq 400 only a 2.0 but with 400bhp they done a test on top gear it beat the new lambo around the track cos it could turn into the twisty corners alot better but then they put on a 1.7 mile strip against a volkswagon polo 1.6 and it was a rolling start at 30mph but they were only aloud 2 use 5th gear the lag was that bad by the time it started 2 catch the polo up they had run out of track
but i stand corrected and thankyou warmonga 4 taking the time 2 explain it 2 me top bloke
in heinsite the more cylinders the more gas the more gas the less lag makes perfect sense

sorry mate i should pay more attention really i shouldnt of commented on V6 forced induction as i only know about the 4 cylinder engines however the bloke that posted this topic had such a pointless reason 4 wanting a supercharger i felt i had 2 say something or it would have been a pointless post and instead of getting on his case i thought i would post something constructive (not only that i do enjoy a good debate) as it turns out it wasnt a piontless post cos ive learnt something new thankyou all

Look at your keyboard. 2 keys to the left of the right-hand shift key is the period. It looks like: . You should learn to become familar with this key, as it helps others determine where the end of sentences are.

No problem. How's things in Merry 'ol England? Been there twice and I really miss stopping in a pub to get a draught ale. They have some of the best ales there and bitters...mmmmm

Anyone care to speculate what a roots style supercharger would do to the Contour?
Black 1998.5
3L Oval Port
Full HMS Transmission
Lots of other stuff

make it somewhat faster, and harder to launch at the same time. Unless you have a big heavy FWD platform (ala GTP / Regal GS) IMO, a roots type SC is a waste....

That's easy...
It would break sh~t really fast!
Low end torque is NOT wanted on this platform or for that matter really on any FWD street car.
A hopped up stock NA engine gives the chassis fits. A 3L gives it chest pains and near cardiac arrest. More power then that just flat out kills it.
Now a screw style blower on a 3L Duratec in a RWD car would be really cool.

It was not broke; Yet I fixed it anyway.
