I walked in to the shop and told the guy what everyone else was saying "its the water pump" so i said "forget everything eles and rip it apart and tell me they're wrong". And low and behold the CEG gurus were spot on yet again.

With what you paid, you should just worry about buying yourself a pizza. 
I wish I had the money you have to just "throw" around at a Contour!! 
Did he tell you why it cost $400 bucks? I mean, how much shop time did he bill you? It's like 6 bolts that hold the thing in...How much did he charge you for the part? I'd be asking some serious questions...
