I'm sorry man but that isn't completely true.
Well, I do know 7-8 people who use brownbread with no regrets and all sound deadening materials perform the same basic operation of adding mass to reduce resonant frequency regardless of the material used. So, I suppose it is completely true.

They are NOT all the same.
Wow, what a revelation. I have little to add since you put it so succinctly. Not only are they not all the same, they also look different, too. Pretty amazing [censored].

Fact is this, asphalt does melt at temperatures which the insides of your doors WILL see if you live in a warm climate. Hell, you don't even have to live in a warm climate. eDead v1 melted to the inside of my brothers door in ONE hot day in Seattle. It was maybe 92 degrees outside. Ruined his door panels and part of the carpet. Car STILL smells like asphalt.
That's unfortunate. Given time, I could probably find 50000 people who have not had issues. I have read about 2-3 people having issues with it. I suppose it should be noted in future discussions that BradJs brother had an issue.

But whatever, if you think using roofing materials (asphalt) is a suitable substitute for properly engineered acoustical damnening material, be my guest.
Please. Almost all sound deadening materials currently available previously existed on the market as something other than a properly engineered acoustical "damnening" (damping) material.

Your $1-200 savings could possibly turn into $500 out the door when you have to replace something ruined by brownbead.
Do yourself a favor and go with a Butyl based product. There are some good ones out there for not much more $$ than brownbead.
Brownbread, afaik, isn't particularly cheap compared to some others. I just stated it has been used by many people without any problems. There will be scenarios where each materials may not be appropriate and obviously 92 degree days in Seattle spell doom for brownbread.
