im sure they wont be complaining when half of the workers who end up in new orleans turn out to be illegal immigrants. where else can you find 10k laborers willing to work for $5 an hour NOW?! sure, there are going to be tons of professional contractors, roofers, plumbers etc but im talking about the sh*t-grunt work that people dont want to do. the hauling away of trash and crap. i hope people dont honestly think that the residents, maaaany of whom were unemployed before the hurricane, are going to jump right up and grab a broom and some gloves. im betting that illegal workers will be trucked in by some major contractors and the government will just turn a blind eye for the sake of rebuilding the area as quickly and cheaply as possible.

im sure the Minutemen will be surrounding the area with signs, demanding that the contractors hire Americans to do the work instead, at $15 an hour.

You really need to venture out in other parts of the world some. I grew up in a town that was so small it only had caution light. There are plenty of americans that work for minimum wage and they are happy about it. Really tired of you thinking that "ONLY" illegals will work for low wages.

Thank you! That is such a tired excuse. I, too, grew up in a rural area and plenty of people there worked for minimum wage.

Quit pointing the finger and blaming the American citizens. You should be blaming the companies that hire them instead and use that excuse as a cop-out.

i agree, but not wholey. its not only construction companies. how many people have or know someone who has a mexican/salvadoran maid or gardener? if you know someone who does, you should demand that they produce evidence of legal residency and work papers or threaten to call INS on them. not to mention all the farms, car washes, restaurants etc... i drive by Home Depot a few times a day. out of all the times i drive by i always see tons of guys out there waiting for a contractor to pick them up. never once have i seen a white or black guy out there with them. they prefer to stand at the freeway onramps begging for change

its a two way street, if not threeway. they come for the work, illegally. the employers hire them for peanuts, illegally. and we reap the benefits, legally. Im sorry if you hate to hear the "excuse" or "cop out" or whatever you want to call it but the fact remains that these are the only people willing to leave their families for a year, to hop on a bus, and do ardous work in the sun for peanuts. am i endorsing it? no. im only stating the facts. i too wish everyone could all be legal and we could hold hands and walk down the street together singing Cumbayah while eating corn on the cob.

I agree with you there. It isn't just companies, but I was trying to make a point. People shouldn't be hiring them to come dig holes, paint houses, etc. If you see it happening you should call them out on it.

To be honest with you, I don't want to sing Cumbayah walking down the street with anyone. I'm not looking for that kind of Utopian existance. If they just went through the legal process it would be fine.

However, the threadstarter requested we not turn this into a political debate. On that note I would like to say I give 100% support to the Minute Man project so long as they keep it on the up-and-up. I wish I could make the time to go down there and help.

The illegals trying to make it into the USA don't need to be shot or beaten; they only need to be stopped and I think that's exactly what these guys are trying to do.
