besides your example of the poor principals being required to learn English, what would making English the official language do? it would force people to learn English? how so? would it make spanish radio/tv/magazines illegal? would companies not be allowed to advertise in spanish? would people not be allowed to talk to each other in a foreign language? i think i see where you think it would make a big difference, but in reality, i dont think it would do that much.
and btw, based on my public school teaching experience, immigrant children, whether illegal or not, strive to learn English. it may not be to the educational standards but kids actually get made fun of for not speaking English, by other immigrant kids who have learned it. i have met many adults who speak only spanish/chinese/armenian/whatever and their kids translate for them. I covered some ESL classes before. most of the kids in there spoke more English than I speak Spanish.
it doesn't have anything to do with the legality of a foreign language. I never said let's make all other languages illegal. It has EVERYTHING to to do with the attitude of those who come into our country. If I go to a foreign country, I do not expect them to learn my language. It's THEIR COUNTRY. There's nothing wrong with speaking/advertising/programming in a foreign language. It's the fact that they come here expecting to do business in America, thinking they can do whatever they want. And in the business I work in, security, I deal with Mexicans who don't speak any English all day. And in all reality, it's HORRIBLE.
What it has done is create a lower-socioeconomic class, almost like a slave class that does the work "Americans don't want to do." They mow our lawns, the paint our fences, and they break their backs building our houses, they clean our buildings, and in the meantime, they are living substandard lives in America. It's nothing to see 10 Mexicans stuffed in the cab of a Ford F-350 Four door pickup, with 10 more in the bed. There's something wrong here.
You think all I care about is the legality of the language and the illegal border crossings? You're wrong. The lives of millions of Mexicans are put at risk on a daily basis because of the lives they lead when they come here illegally. They put the lives of millions of Americans at risk when they come here illegally.
It's all about the attitude. Unfortunately, somebody along the way in American history decided that Americans and those who come to America, can get whatever whenever they want. Well, I and many others are tired of paying for the health, education, and welfare of these illegal immigrants...There are legal ways to come into the country!! Even if it does take a long time. The government doesn't allow a crime victim to take the law into their own hands simply because the criminal court is a long and drawn out process. Nor should we allow immigrants to cross our borders illegally and live a life in our country simply because the Naturalization process is a long and drawn out process.
