Minute Men Project Article
What's your take on them?
Why is being AGAINST illegal immigrants racist? Why does it make you 'hate'?
I personally am GLAD that there are Americans with BACKBONES in this country and are doing the RIGHT thing. I only wish I could participate in this. Does that make me a racist?
I'd like to keep this discussion non-politcal (if possible) and only debate the reasons for/against this type of action.

I would love to join in the patrol if I lived down there. If the government is unwilling/unable to stop illegal aliens from crossing the Mexico/US border and there are many citizens who are willing to take on the job, I say go for it.
All they are doing is helping out the undermanned border patrol by locating these aliens and holding them until someone else arrives to take care of them. I see nothing wrong with this at all.
If you stopped someone from robbing a bank and held them until police arrived would you be praised or criticized?

The term racist means nothing anymore. It is just thrown around like a 5th grader telling his girlfriend he 'loves' her.
I agree with what the minutemen are doing, and I really fail to see how searching for criminals and reporting them to authorities can be viewed as a bad thing.

im sure they wont be complaining when half of the workers who end up in new orleans turn out to be illegal immigrants. where else can you find 10k laborers willing to work for $5 an hour NOW?! sure, there are going to be tons of professional contractors, roofers, plumbers etc but im talking about the sh*t-grunt work that people dont want to do. the hauling away of trash and crap. i hope people dont honestly think that the residents, maaaany of whom were unemployed before the hurricane, are going to jump right up and grab a broom and some gloves. im betting that illegal workers will be trucked in by some major contractors and the government will just turn a blind eye for the sake of rebuilding the area as quickly and cheaply as possible.
im sure the Minutemen will be surrounding the area with signs, demanding that the contractors hire Americans to do the work instead, at $15 an hour.

Illegal immigrants don't pay taxes. For that matter, let's not consider them " cheap labor ." Because the taxes that citizens and legal immigrants have to go to pay for their hospital bills, their children's education in US schools, and their stay in prison(US prisons are full of illegal immigrants), we have to start calling them " subsidized labor ."
The Minutemen are performing a duty which, in its nature is not political, but patriotic. The reason the federal government hasn't done anyting to support the Minutemen or to secure the border is because they fear losing the Hispanic vote. That is political, not patriotic. Shame on you, George W. Bush.

i question the effectiveness of this. these guys might as well go protest on the white house lawn since that's where the action should come from anyway.
i'm not saying it's ok, but i doubt it will do anything significant to stem the flow. looks like it may actually result in non productive violence.

I think the effectiveness is there. It was shown when they did this in AZ in April I believe that the flow was substantially slowed. However, with it only being a Minuteman project, it only slowsduring that time they are there, which highlights the problem with the Border Patrol.
