Where do you live? I have a set, and could let you borrow them if you're close. I drove all over PA and could even get them down to DC.

I had a pair of cheapo ones from Harbor Freight that a friend gave me. They suck, got seized up in the middle of a spring compress.
Now I'm using the ones from Sears, much better and even a safer design IMO.
I say don't go cheap. Springs have alot of compressed energy and you do not want anything going wrong.

Autozone, advanced, murrays...many of these kinds of auto part chain stores rent out the spring compressors for free. Walk in, tell them you want to rent it...pay like ~$50, use compressor, when done return them to the store and get your $50 back...it's great isn't it?

$15 to buy them or a $20-30 deposit to "loan" them out.

we didn't need one when doing my spring/strut combo.
Failure is simply the opportunity to begin again, this time more intelligently.

Bingo! As cheap as they are, I don't do suspension swaps that often so owning spring compressors isn't important to me. I just rented them from Auto Zone and returned them the next day.
