I have a 1998 2.5l with the CD4E transmission. It will drive fine for two or three days, then the rpms climb and I lose power. I realized that it is shifting in and out of overdrive. For a while I could turn off the overdrive and it ran okay, but now it doesn't matter. it pops in and out at will and is slamming very hard back into overdrive. I find no TSB's and Identifix does not list any recurring problems with this. I think I have a valve body / shift solenoid problem, but they should set a check engine light. The light does not come on. Any ideas? It has gotten to be almost undriveable.
