So you immediately get on it in a car with new rod or main bearings?

Same family of motors so not much different. External dimensions are the same!
You aren't thinking of the VUlcan 3.0 series or the SHO motor are you?

Did you read the line that you quoted? He said "UNLESS it's been rebuilt or been torn apart its already broke in" meaning, if he just bought a used motor and installed it WITHOUT putting new bearings in, the motor is already broken in.
Oh, and to let you know, I installed new rod bearings and flogged the hell out of it the day I got it running. 37k miles later, it runs better than ever.

Just FYI, only reason to worry about break-in is if using high tension aftermarket rings.
Bearings are no issue to worry about. They are either sized right or they aren't in which case you're screwed anyway.
New rings and rebored cylinders is the time on our shortblocks where you will want to consider your break-in. In that case follow the ring manufacturers recommendations.
**edit**
this info regards our motors, other motors vary.

Alright, it's been a few days. Thought I'd give an update. It didn't feel like all that much of an improvement initially, but after a few hundred k's, Im pretty damn impressed! The torque is amazing. just a hint of throttle really gets ya moving. The most impressive thing is the top end. From about 120 (4500RPM) on up it really pulls hard and slams into the speed limiter. All this on an untuned ecu, and stock exhaust. I can only imagine what i'm in for.
