In high school (I graduated in 99) a friend of mine had his uncle's cougar for a week or so. It was a 4cyl atx, i thought it looked cool, but man was it slooooooooooow.
And yes his uncle was a ford employee.

Well, at 3050 is what the 98 SVT hard top weighed in at IIRC so that would put the cougar right in line with it but as someone pointed out, 30 less HP. But ok. the literature could be wrong. It didn't change the fact that it is heavier than a GL contour though which was was right about 2700.

Curb Weights: 99' Cougar V6: 2892 lbs 99' Contour SVT: 3068 lbs 99' Contour LX & SE: 2769 lbs Info from AutoTrader... Now as you can see the Contour SVT weighs 176 lbs heavier than the Cougar. The Contour LX&SE weighs 123 lbs lighter than the Cougar. Now who cares about weight and love your car!!!

Those numbers aren't all that accurate. It's taken a lot of weight reduction to get my car to 2900# wet, which indicates a curb weight of at least 2850#. Probably more like 2950# for a fully loaded model.

See I new it. The numbers for the V6 contour are all wrong. They are quoting the 4cyl model. There are a few sites online that list the stock V6 at around 2900. One major source probably quoted it wrong and then they all got it wrong.

Well with weight reduction done to my cougar I was able get weight of 2650 with a 1/4 tank of gas. 19" wheels and my wings west lip kit.
In retrospect this leads me to believe the cougar has heavier interior parts and heavier sound deading matrials. (i did not strip up the body molded floor sound deadning). I would lend this to the fact that the cougar being the 'luxury' band of Mercury was equipped with heavier grade sound deadning and higher quality interior materials.
I will note that the i4 cougar is only 50lbs lighter than the v6. (99-00)
