Personally, if you are going to take the time to do all the work yourself, I would take the time and do all the proper pressure and dry air tests. That way, you will know for sure what is bad and what isn't and why whatever is bad.
Reason I say that is because you may not "have" to replace any of the drums or clutch packs. If you have checked the links, in my CD4E FAQ, and did not see a PDF that contained a pressure chart and how to check these pressures, let me know. I will e-mail you that article as well.
Plus, you get a CD4E from a junkyard and you are lible to have to do more work to it than you have to do to your own. Check yours out, very well and go from there.
Remember, Bt completely rebuilt his, with a cracked case and drum, for around $1500 IIRC. That's not bad!! If you were to go with an MTX, you would have to eventually have to spend that much (if TH rebuilds it) making it reliable as well, plus the price of the swap. Too much if you ask me!
