First, I tried to e-mail terry and his e-mail addy no longer works. Then, after looking on here for a bit a searching for an answer I would like to pose a question about a tranny swap, so, here it goes.
I have a 99 ATX Contour Zetec and my tranny recently messed up, I am wondering what it wou'd entail, or even if it's possible to swap out an ATX and put in the MTX-75 I know that if it's possible I would need:
1. MTX-75 tranny 2. pedal assembly 3. mtx flywheel 4. clutch 5. probably a new cv at least on the left side 6. all cables and linkages 7. shifter
I'm not sure if there are any electronics in a manual tranny or not so i'm not sure if i'd need the ecu from the other car or even if i would have to change over the entire wiring harness or just part of it.
I am looking at 1500 for a rebuilt tranny and am trying to find a different way around this and happened to think about a manual instead. If it's possible then I have another option but if not could it be explained why.
If you could help or at least shed light on this then it would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks, william

It will cost you that much to convert as well. Most likely will need a PCM as well.

Here is a decent thread. I found this by doing a search, using "ATX to MTX". There's actually alot of threads, but you will have to do some wadding. Alot of the threads turn into bashing matches, so... but you can tell pretty quick which ones to ignore and which ones are on topic. I also e-mailed you that how-to that I mentioned as well.

ok another question, I found a tranny from a 98 that had a v-6, will it fit? I believe I read on here that the tranny's are Identical but I wanna make sure. Will a Duratec 2.5 tranny fit the Zetec or will i need to switch out the bell housing, or what, it's a known good tranny, the engine cratered but the tranny was fine when this happened. and it's only 300.

I'd say leave it. The duratec final drive would be nice on a zetec...and visa versa
