The Club serisouly takes 2 seconds, and is the best visual deterent. I agree with replaces the stock ford light with a brighter LED, or just dropping the 300 bucks for a car alarm.

The biggest regret you will have is when your car is gone and you could of done something.

The club isn't much of a deterent at all. Usually people break in to still something, not your steering wheel, and contours aren't stolen too often. And it takes about the same amount of time for a thief to remove it as it took you to put it on.

You have a PM, Matt.

Let me know what you think!

edit: a VERY long PM.

Sorry! Got carried away!

I think combining the plates from my first PM with the rather lengthy explanation in my second pm will be the best combination you can get. and pushing the same or less as an alarm that buzzes and chirps and pisses people off. I guarantee less people will open your car up.

Why don't you share these ideas with the rest of us Ray?

I wanna read Ray, pick me!!!

As for the club- worst device ever. I've had a car stolen (my 1996 Volvo) while using that device. I'll assume they just cut the mid section, and botta boom.

ONLY thing that will protect is maybe your drivers side airbag. Just hang a gun rack in the car and plaster the back with NRA stickers.... they'll steer clear.

[jeff foxworthy voice]If you mount a gun rack in the back of a Ford Contour, and stick on some NRA stickers.....you might be a redneck. [/jeff foxworthy voice]

Matt has the info.. he can share as much/little of it as he wishes. I'll not go in to detail, AGAIN. I didn't save the rather lengthy PM and won't type THAT much again.

He can highlight come key topics if he wishes.

I'm extremely interested in ANYTHING that will help safeguard my car. I've had 2 cars broken into within the past year and both of them were in my own (censored) driveway. Fortunately the SVT hasn't been violated yet cause it's always inside. I also leave nothing within sight, I don't "bump" into the parking lot, I always set my alarm, I park in the light away from other cars, etc, etc, etc. But trying to do everything is not always enough.

Ray, you should have known that as soon as you said PM and didn't post anything, some very curious or anal people (like me) are gonna want to know EVERYTHING you have to say. You're one of the people on CEG who when you speak, people listen (or at least, they should). Since you'd rather not repeat yourself, here's hoping that Matt will let us in on the secrets shared by you. Like I said, I'm extremely interested in ANYTHING that will safeguard my car and frankly, help keep me out of jail for what I'd do to any scumbag I caught messing with my car.

We made a ghetto alarm in my friend's 92 Acclaim. Bought 2 peizo alarms from Radioshack. 1 was like 90-100dB, the other was a 110 or 120dB.

Wired it to the dome light circuit and put a switch on it. If anyone opened a door, you're greeted with ear piercing sounds.

Okay, here goes. I'll not share everything because, obviously, protection that is posted publicly is a vulnerability. (It took me a while to determine what I could comfortably disclose in this post, hence why the information is sparse.)

There are several night-vision video cameras stealthily mounted in various locations of Ray's car. Great for racing and for security. Two forms of recording equipment: one on-site and one off. Although wireless (i.e. X10) is easier to install, he recommends having a wired setup for better quality video.

He hints at something Kane mentioned as well, only involving light rather than sound. Evidently a tactic used in newer police cruisers as well.

There are other forms of non-video security; some he shared with me and other things that I don't know about either. (Good level of protection not to disclose everything to essentially a stranger you meet on the Internet ) Clearly you'd have to be incredibly stupid to try and break into Ray's car. The work involved to get at every little detail is incredible; I have to give Ray major props for electrical work to his car.
