Okay, there have been FOUR break-ins on campus in the past month (three of them being small lots I frequently park, one on the street). All involved smashing a window and jacking radios, radar detectors, and whatever else might net value (in one case, two bikes and tool boxes). I have a Clifford paging alarm, but am concerned that it may not affect anything as breakins can occur within 15 seconds. Henceforth I will be bringing my head unit face with me and removing the radar detector from the car (it's a piece of junk that doesn't work anyway). The campus is not video monitored but the police are stepping up their foot patrols in the lots.
I've covered most of the bases (still need to get comprehensive insurance), but does anybody have advanced tips for ensuring that your car doesn't get broken into, or approaches to security (stealthy video monitoring, flame throwers, fun stuff like that)?

I do... but it wouldn't be something you can install instantly, or cheaply if you want it completely in-car.
If you are parked close enough to your dorm room, then the expense is DRAMATICALLY reduced, and quick installation, too.

Don't leave anything out in the open that can give away what else might be in your car. I made that mistake. Some of the wires leading to the trunk from my HU had fallen down in the passenger footwell. Someone saw them, realized I had equipment in the trunk, and smashed the window in. Also, disable the trunk open by the driver's seat. Stick to using a key or fob. It isn't 100% secure, but it does help.

You could do like in S. Africa where they rigged the car so if the alarm goes off, burning napalm flys out from underneath the car...

Disabling the trunk -- good point, I had forgotten about that. (Although if somebody is going to steal my sleeping bag, textbooks, or spare tire, more power to 'em!)

Disable the interior trunk lever via the orange lever in the trunk. Beef up your alarm, ie. if you don't have a hood pin switch, get one, invest in a good air horn and get your horn honk out put hooked up, proximity sensors rock if hooked up and set right, i would also invest in a backup battery for your alarm if you are that worried about your stuff being taken. Now this may not prevent a theif from stealing your stuff, but it might deter 90% of them when they get close to your car and your air horns start blazing to warn them off! I must warn you though, the motion sensors can get annoying, but to me it is worth the trouble of looking out the window for no reason.

id take the hu out all together...it isnt that hard...5 sec at most, and just pull the whole unit. they cant steal anything that isnt there!

Textbooks are a gold mine. Where I used to attend school the bookstore wouldn't allow bookbags in the store for obvious reasons, but provided free lockers. No one used the lockers, and as a result dozens of bags were stolen each semester. The thieves that were caught were never students, and I'm sure they weren't stealing Calculus or Multivariate Statistics books for their reading pleasure.

Another thing to ad, get one of those "window sun visor" things. It will dramatically decrease the light inside the car, not allowing them to see in as good. Disable the trunk is a good idea. If you haven't done so, that little red blinky light on the dahs can make more of a statement by replacing it with a brighter LED. If you don't have an alarm, cheap and effective can simply be placing a couple "viper alarm stickers" or whatever on the front windwos in the bottom corner. Also, don't leave pop cans, or small amounts of spare change, candy bars, gum... homeless guys LOVE this stuff. They'll break a window out for 75 cents. 
And MOST IMPORTANT, don't roll up to your spot bumping your [censored] . I NEVER do. When I am within a mile of my destination, down it goes.. ALL the way down. Less peopel here, less likly they will be tempted.
Good places to park are on the very first level of a parking structure or the VERY top where there is no cover. Tons of light gives them less places to be hidden. And teh first level is more chance to get caught as there is more people/traffic/guard.

I hunted down your car on tuesday.
You should park in structure 5 (the smaller one next to 2) they have like 4 or 5 cameras per floor, and a security staff til midnight when it closes. And i think the spots are wider as well.
