OP melba Newbie M Joined: Sep 2005 Posts: 3	Hi, I have a 95 Contour SE auto transmission that won't go foward. It will only go in reverse. Is this a transmission problem? Is there anything I can do first before I take it to a shop? Like change the tranny filter? My son is very mechanical. Thanks! melba

Is it worth fixing this old of a car? Sorry for all the questions. I'm afraid I have a distrust of auto mechanics. I've paid for many repairs that didn't fix the problem and I don't know any mechanics that I feel I can trust right now. melba

FavoriteMystaque Hard-core CEG\'er F Joined: Oct 2004 Posts: 1,456	It might be the transmission range switch, it is on the top of the trans near the battery. My Dad's 1993 Sable skipped reverse because of the switch. I would try one of those. Cheaper and easier than changing the trans or car.

Also...I found the directions for the 'Electronic Engin Control self test'. I was going to have my son do this test too. It says to "hook up light and jumper(or a tester if you have one)". I don't have a tester but I don't understand, what is a light and jumper? melba
